This is going to be a long post, but well worth the read. I first tried studying for the MCAT during my senior year, but it did not go well at all. I purchased Kaplan's in-person course in NYC and it was just a disaster!!!! The teacher seemed to have forgotten a lot of the information on the MCAT. He told us "I am not here to teach you content on the MCAT, I am here to teach you tips and tricks on how to take exams" I honestly felt like I was sold a lemon car. The videos sucked, the teacher sucked, the only thing that was decent was the massive amount of practice questions provided (some of which were far too hard). Needless to say, I did not take the MCAT that year. Anyway, I found a video on youtube called "how to approach research-based passages" by the MCAT disciples and it helped me improve my score dramatically, so I figured what the heck, if that was so helpful I wonder what else they have available, so I took a look at their courses and ultimately decided on their on demand course. Unlike the kaplan course, they actually made it their job to teach us all of the content tested by the MCAT. The videos were structured as lectures you would receive at a college, but they were just really well made. I really do not know how to explain it, but the videos were just so easy to memorize, contained all the info needed for the exam, and even addressed common pitfalls. That last bit is what impressed me the most. In every video, they seemed to capture and attack the things that always left me scratching my head. This course helped me score a 515 on the MCAT, and I am just so happy and grateful to their founder for devising the course. It really is a gift to those fortunate enough to recognize it's worth.
