Breukelen Polished is a Brooklyn nail brand founded in 2014 by Ariel Terry, a Bedford-Stuyvesant native, Temple University graduate and high school algebra teacher, with co-founder Tauaishu Porter; the launch party was held at Therapy Wine Bar on Lewis Avenue in Bed-Stuy. The name uses the historic Dutch spelling of Brooklyn, and every shade is named for a Brooklyn reference, among them Red Hook, Do or Die, The Bois, Creamy Crack and Breukelen's Favorite.
The line is vegan and cruelty-free, with an 11-free classic lacquer, a 7-free gel polish, nail treatments, decals and matching sets. The business is Black-owned and woman-owned, and it won Best Nail Lacquer at the 2022 Melanin Awards; it is verified Black-owned and woman-owned by The Black Rolodex as of August 2026. Sales spiked to an all-time high during the COVID-19 at-home manicure boom.
Breukelen Polished is online-only, with no storefront and no local pickup, and orders ship nationwide; contact is through the web form on the site. Several shades are currently sold out, so check what is in stock and pick up your colors.
