Cafe Resistance Bookstore & Coffee Shop

Cafe Resistance Bookstore & Coffee Shop is a Black-owned bookstore and coffee shop at 5007 Soutel Drive on Jacksonville's Northside.

It opened in the summer of 2024 and did something the neighborhood had been missing: it put books and coffee in the same room and left the door open. The name is not decoration. The shelf is curated with intent, and the shop has become a gathering place as much as a retail space — the kind of room where you go in for a coffee and end up in a conversation.

Soutel Drive is a corridor that has not had many places like this, which is a large part of why it matters. A bookstore is a small business, but it is also infrastructure: somewhere to sit, somewhere to meet, somewhere for a young reader to find a book with a face like theirs on the cover.

Cafe Resistance passed its first anniversary in the summer of 2025 and has kept building since. The shop keeps its hours, events and new arrivals on Instagram, which is the best place to check before you head over.
