Hanifa is a Black-owned womenswear brand founded in 2012 by designer Anifa Mvuemba, who built the label independently and kept it rooted in the Maryland and Washington, D.C. area. Hanifa is known for bold color, luxurious knits and curve-celebrating silhouettes in an inclusive size range.
The brand made fashion history in May 2020 when it presented its Pink Label Congo collection as a 3D virtual runway show on Instagram Live, a moment covered by major fashion publications around the world. Mvuemba went on to win the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, and her designs have been worn by many well-known women in entertainment and public life.
Hanifa expanded into footwear with boots, sandals and mules that carry the same runway sensibility.
