Harlem Hops is a craft beer bar on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard in Central Harlem, billed as Manhattan's first 100% African American-owned local craft beer bar. It was founded in 2018 by three HBCU graduates, and partner Kevin Bradford has been profiled by The New York Times.
The draft and bottle list rotates and is curated from small-batch, family-owned and BIPOC-owned breweries, with bratwurst and bar food to go with it, so a visit doubles as a tour through beers most bars in the city never pour. The bar was named a James Beard Award semifinalist for its 2023 outstanding bar program, and it has been covered by The New Yorker, The New York Times and Fortune. Beyond the taps, the stated mission is investing in the Harlem community and expanding access to craft beer made by and for Black drinkers, which is part of why regulars keep coming back.
The room is open Wednesday through Sunday, with later hours on Friday and Saturday, and the bar also handles private parties and catering. Merchandise is available through its online checkout. Pull up a stool and see what is on tap today.
