HealHaus was founded in 2018 by Elisa Shankle and Darian Hall to make wellness feel like it belongs to everyone, and it quickly became one of the best-known Black-owned wellness spaces in the country. The model puts a cafe, a studio and a practitioner suite in one building: yoga, meditation and breathwork classes, plus one-on-one sessions with therapists, reiki practitioners, herbalists, acupuncturists and coaches, with a cafe serving smoothies, coffee and plant-based food to anyone who walks in.
Online classes and digital programming extend the community well past the building.
The original Clinton Hill, Brooklyn location has closed and HealHaus has opened at The Pillars in downtown Newark, with a return to Brooklyn listed as coming soon — check the website for the current schedule before traveling. For healing and wellness in a space designed for Black and brown people, HealHaus set the standard.
