Jo-Anne Vernay is a certified Black woman-owned luxury vegan accessories brand founded by designer Dyandra Raye. After going vegan in 2018, Dyandra noticed a gap in the market for high-end footwear made from plant-based materials instead of animal leather or heavy plastics. She launched Jo-Anne Vernay in Fall/Winter 2020 with its premiere style, the Mel Heel.
The brand's shoes and handbags are made from biodegradable fruit fabrics, including Piñatex pineapple leaf fiber and apple leather, and are produced by skilled artisans. Styles carry family names, like the Lynda lace-up, named after the founder's mother and crafted in Italy from pineapple leaf fiber. The Mel Heel features a handwoven macrame feather and a sculptural triangle heel.
Jo-Anne Vernay follows slow and circular fashion principles and has been featured in major fashion magazines and supported by Harlem's Fashion Row. Shop at joannevernay.com and follow @joannevernay on Instagram. Choose luxury that is kinder to the planet and shop Black today.
