LICHEN was founded in 2017 by Ed Be and Jared Blake, and the shop is Black- and Asian-owned. It describes itself as a design incubator centered around furniture, spatial design, and the discovery of how we interact with these elements, past, present and future, which in practice means a showroom where vintage, contemporary and experimental pieces sit together. Stock covers sofas, coffee and dining tables, lighting, side tables, stools, storage, shelving, accessories and design literature.
The flagship showroom is at 564 Woodward Avenue in Ridgewood, Queens, open weekends from noon to 5pm. A second FF&E showroom opened in Brooklyn at 109 Montrose Avenue in October 2023, with hours on Thursday and Friday from 2pm to 7pm and on weekends from 10am to 5pm, so there are two places to see pieces in person.
No phone number is published; the shop is reached by email or through Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, where it posts as lichennyc. For furniture shoppers who would rather handle a piece than scroll past it, both rooms are open to visit. Stop by in Ridgewood or Brooklyn, or get in touch by email.
