Lillie's of Charleston is a family-owned Lowcountry specialty food company making hot sauces, mustard-based barbecue sauces, spice blends and rubs. It is named for the founder's great-aunt Lillie, whose Sunday dinners of rib tips, collard greens and sweet potato pie inspired the recipes; those family recipes first went public in 1985 through The Rib Shack restaurant, and the company itself dates to 2001. The lineup includes Low Country Loco and Chucktown Stinger hot sauces, Finger Leek-en and Hab Mussy mustard barbecue sauces, wing and grilling spice combinations, gift boxes and Gullah Pop popcorn.
The mustard barbecue sauce recipes are multiple Scovie Award winners. The business is rooted in Gullah Geechee culture and promotes it directly, with a dedicated section of the site given over to that history.
Press coverage includes the Today Show during Women's History Month in 2022, the Amazon Black Business Accelerator that same year, Forbes, Cosmopolitan, People, HuffPost and Southern Living, and both Mindy Kaling and Diane von Furstenberg have named it a favorite. There is no retail storefront; the brand sells online, with wholesale ordering through Faire. Order a bottle today.
