Little Pie Company has been baking in Hell's Kitchen since Arnold Wilkerson founded it in 1985, and four decades later the West 43rd Street bakery still turns out pies by hand every day. The signature is the Sour Cream Apple Walnut pie, joined by Old Fashioned Apple with cheddar crust, Key Lime, Southern Pecan, Three Berry, Banana Coconut Cream, cheesecakes, seasonal pumpkin and gluten-free options, plus chicken pot pies, cakes, muffins and brownies.
Pies come in sizes from five-inch individual to full ten-inch, so a slice-sized craving and a holiday table are both covered. The shop ships nationwide and takes orders for Thanksgiving and the holidays, when the lines start early and the phone runs hot.
It is a small storefront with a few seats and the smell alone is worth the walk. For a Black-owned New York bakery that has outlasted nearly everything around it, Little Pie Company is a classic.
