MahoganyBooks is a Black-owned bookstore founded in 2007 by Derrick and Ramunda Young. It began as an online bookstore run from the couple's one-bedroom apartment, with a focus on books written for, by and about people of the Black diaspora.
The Youngs opened their first brick-and-mortar shop in Washington, DC's Anacostia neighborhood in 2017, then added a larger store at National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, on Juneteenth 2021. The National Harbor shop, at 121 American Way next to the oyster bar on the corner, carries fiction, nonfiction, children's books and gifts, and has served coffee from a Black-owned roaster. A newer location at Woodmore Town Centre in Glenarden, Maryland, was announced to open in August 2026.
MahoganyBooks is known for its Black Books Matter book club, author events and school outreach, and it also sells online with nationwide shipping. Parking for the National Harbor store is in the Mariner Garage behind the shop.
