Malene Barnett is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist, textile and surface designer, and community builder whose work explores her Caribbean heritage alongside the surface pattern found in African and diasporic architecture, textiles and objects. The business formerly traded as Malene B, and that domain now redirects to her namesake site, so the practice runs under the artist's own name today. What is for sale spans a custom tile collection, handcrafted in Mexico from about twenty-four dollars per square foot with a four to six week production time, and a carpet collection, along with art prints, ceramics and books.
There is also a current washable-rug collaboration with Ruggable for anyone who wants the pattern work at a lower price point. Projects featured on the site include Redemption Ceramics, Market Women and Layered Histories, plus residencies at Anderson Ranch, Watershed and Judson Glass.
The studio is by appointment only and no street address or phone number is published, so tile quotes and visits are arranged through the site. For designers and homeowners looking for surfaces with real authorship behind them, this is a practice worth a conversation. Request a quote
