Orange Culture is the Lagos-based label Adebayo Oke-Lawal started in 2011, and it has spent more than a decade pushing at what Nigerian menswear can look like. The collections are known for fluid silhouettes that cross conventional gender lines, hand-detailed prints, embroidery and layering — shirts, blouses, crop tops, vests, skirts, trousers, suiting, jackets and coats designed to be worn by whoever they suit.
Oke-Lawal has been an LVMH Prize semi-finalist and shown internationally, and the brand is stocked by retailers around the world while producing in Nigeria and working with local artisans. The label is outspoken about self-expression and has built a following among people who want clothes with a stated point of view. There is no U.S.
storefront; the brand sells online and ships internationally. For African fashion that takes real creative risks, Orange Culture is one of the best.
