Partake Foods makes gluten-free, vegan, non-GMO cookies, grahams, vanilla wafers and crackers that are free of the top allergens. Denise Woodard founded the company in 2016 after her daughter was diagnosed with life-threatening food allergies and she could not find snacks she trusted.
Woodard left her corporate job in 2017, ran a Kickstarter, and sold the first three cookie flavors out of her car to New York grocers; the brand landed in Whole Foods Market in 2018 and raised $1 million in seed funding from Marcy Venture Partners in 2019, reported as the first time a Black woman raised more than $1 million for a packaged food company. Partake is a Certified B Corp and runs the Black Futures Fellowship, which supports HBCU students entering the consumer packaged goods industry. The snacks are now sold in more than 11,000 retail locations nationwide, including Kroger, Target, Whole Foods, Walmart and Thrive Market, alongside the company's own online store.
