Post-Imperial

New York, New York, United States
Business Details

Post-Imperial is the menswear label of designer Niyi Okuboyejo, who lives and works in Harlem and produces in Nigeria. The brand's signature is adire, the Yoruba hand-dyeing tradition, applied to shirts, tunics, camp collars, hoodies, trousers, cargo pants and outerwear so that no two garments carry exactly the same pattern.

Fabrics are dyed by artisans in Nigeria and cut into relaxed, contemporary silhouettes, giving the line a color and depth that printed fabric cannot copy. The label has been stocked by major luxury retailers and covered by menswear press for both its craft and the direct economic tie it maintains to the Nigerian makers who produce it. Alongside the printed pieces the line carries knitwear, tailored jackets and accessories, all cut for an easy fit rather than a rigid one.

Post-Imperial sells online and through stockists; there is no retail store, so the website is where to browse the current season. For menswear with genuine African textile craft behind it, from a Black-owned Harlem-based brand, Post-Imperial stands out.
