Semicolon Bookstore & Gallery is a Black woman-owned bookstore and art space in Chicago's West Town neighborhood. Founder Danielle Moore opened Semicolon in 2019 to put books by and about people of color at the center, while giving local artists a place to show their work.
The shop carries fiction, nonfiction, poetry and children's books with a strong focus on Black authors, alongside rotating gallery exhibits. Semicolon operates as a nonprofit bookstore and is known for literacy work aimed at getting books into the hands of Chicago kids, as well as readings, community events and its welcoming, culture-centered atmosphere.
In 2025 the store closed its Magnificent Mile location and briefly paused, then reopened its West Town shop on Juneteenth with a new cafe after the community raised funds through Kickstarter. Readers can stop in on Chicago Avenue to browse, grab a drink and catch an event.
