Shea Radiance was co-founded in 2008 by husband-and-wife team Funlayo Alabi, who serves as CEO, and Shola Alabi, who started the line in their Savage, Maryland kitchen after discovering that shea butter cleared their sons' eczema. The business is built on raw, unrefined shea butter sourced directly from women-led cooperatives in West Africa. The range covers face care, body care including whipped butters and balms, hair care and bulk raw shea butter, using ingredients such as baobab oil, Kalahari melon seed oil, African black soap, chaga and tremella mushrooms and colloidal oats.
The company describes its philosophy as A-Beauty, or African Beauty, centered on nourishing skin rather than fixing it. Shea Radiance is distributed nationally, including through Whole Foods Market, and revenue has passed one million dollars.
It also runs a 1,000 Women initiative supporting women shea farmers in Oyo State, Nigeria with clean cookstoves and warehouse facilities, and Funlayo Alabi is active in the Global Shea Alliance. The company is at 8520 Corridor Road Unit K in Savage, Maryland, reachable at (443) 812-0762 or
