Sistah Scifi is an online bookstore focused on science fiction, fantasy and Afrofuturism by Black and Indigenous authors. Founder Isis Asare started the store in 2019 to make it easier for readers to find speculative fiction that centers Black and Indigenous voices.
The shop carries novels, comics and children's books, along with merchandise such as shirts. Audiobooks and ebooks are available through Bookshop.org. Readers can also place preorders, build a gift registry and join book events hosted by the store.
Sistah Scifi is also known for its book vending machines, which bring Afrofuturist and speculative titles into community spaces. Machines have been placed in Oakland, California, and Seattle, Washington, at host sites such as Chapter510 in Oakland and the Northwest African American Museum in Seattle.
If you love sci-fi and fantasy, or want to introduce a young reader to stories where Black and Indigenous characters lead the adventure, Sistah Scifi is a great place to browse. Shop online or visit one of the vending machines.
