Sol Cacao

780 E 133rd Street, Bronx 10454, New York, United States
Business Details

Sol Cacao is a bean-to-bar chocolate factory at 780 East 133rd Street in Port Morris, in the South Bronx. It was founded by three brothers, Daniel, Dominic and Nicholas Maloney, who were born in Trinidad and Tobago and raised in New York City, and who were inspired by great-grandparents who grew cacao in Trinidad. The company describes itself as the first bean-to-bar chocolate factory in the Bronx and one of the only 100% Black-owned chocolate factories in America.

The chocolate itself is deliberately simple: every bar uses just three ingredients, cacao, cane sugar and cocoa butter, so the character of each harvest comes through rather than being covered up. Single-origin bars include 70% Colombia, 72% Madagascar, 70% Peru and 70% Ecuador, each priced at $9, which makes a mixed set an easy introduction or gift. The online shop is live, and the brothers publish a phone number and email for questions.

Because walk-in and tasting hours are not clearly posted, it is worth calling ahead before visiting the factory. Try a single-origin bar and taste the difference three ingredients can make. Order today.
