Hello, I am Sylvia Cruz, founder of Women Empowering Girls. Since childhood, I wanted to become a nurse. However, the road to achieving my goals has not been the easiest. I came from a single parent home. My 10 siblings and I were educationally and financially disadvantaged. I became pregnant at the age of 15 and then dropped out of High School soon after. I had no goals and no direction. In my thirties I went back to school and completed my degree as a Registered Nurse. I am proud that I eventually achieved my childhood dreams of becoming a RN. However, I realized that my journey would have benefited greatly from having inspirational women in my life. I believe that the power of mentorship and community is invaluable. Thus, it has become my mission to connect professional women with teen girls. That’s how the birth of “Women Empowering Girls” came to life. We are launching our first “Women Empowering Girls” Summer 2016 Retreat. The retreat will be held in South Florida, catering to girls ages 12-18 years old. I am excited for the opportunity to inspire these young ladies to fulfill their dreams and to reach their full potential with confidence.
