xN Studio is a multi-disciplinary design firm founded in Brooklyn in 2011 by Nasozi Kakembo, a Ugandan-American designer. The studio is known for mudcloth pillows, African-textile home textiles and handmade furniture, and the range extends to baskets, bath products, wall decor, ceramics and kitchen and dining goods. Interior design services are offered alongside the product line.
Kakembo works directly with artisans across Africa, particularly in Uganda, Ghana and Morocco, and describes the model as ethical trade and African artistic expression; the studio self-identifies as Women- and African-owned and operates between the United States and Kampala, Uganda. Although it still describes itself as Brooklyn-founded, the studio's published address is now in Silver Spring, Maryland, and retail is online-only with no storefront; the New York 646 phone number is still in use, consistent with the Brooklyn origins.
