Portrait Coffee is a specialty coffee roaster and cafe in Atlanta's historic West End. The company's mission is to change the picture that comes to mind when people think of specialty coffee, making it more accessible and retelling its history through the lens of Black excellence.
Portrait launched in 2019, founded by a group of Atlanta friends and led by John Onwuchekwa and Aaron Fender. After building a roasting business, they opened their cafe in 2023 in the historic Lottie Watkins Building at 1065 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd SW, with indoor seating, a patio, vinyl records and Black-themed artwork.
The roastery focuses on single-origin coffees and names signature roasts after influential figures, such as Toni (after Toni Morrison) and Stacey (after Stacey Abrams), along with an everyday Founders Blend. Cafe favorites include the Aunt Viv latte, a brown sugar and cardamom drink named for the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air character.
Visit the West End cafe for a cup and a place to work or gather, or order beans online for home brewing. Portrait Coffee is a welcoming neighborhood spot for coffee lovers across Atlanta.
